The CLEAR Method
Start with the learning objective, then choose a small AI-assisted activity that makes learning more visible rather than simply producing more material.
Clarify the outcome
Name what learners should know or be able to do without AI support. Keep the tool in service of that outcome.
Limit the input
Use fictional, public, or fully anonymised examples. Check your institution’s approved tools and data rules.
Examine the output
Check accuracy, representation, reading level, cultural fit, and hidden assumptions before learners see it.
Ask learners to think
Design an activity where students compare, critique, revise, or explain the output rather than passively accept it.
Record the boundary
Tell learners what AI use is permitted, what must be disclosed, and how their work will be assessed.
