The PLAN Method
Good everyday use is not about finding a magical prompt. Use this repeatable four-step habit:
Purpose
Decide what outcome would genuinely help. “Help me compare these three options” is better than “Tell me what to do.”
Limits
Remove private data. State budget, time, language, dietary, accessibility, or other real constraints. Tell the AI not to invent missing facts.
Assess
Check names, dates, prices, calculations, links, and claims against reliable current sources. Ask what assumptions the answer made.
Navigate
Choose and adapt the useful parts. You—not the model—remain responsible for decisions and anything sent in your name.
A healthy role for AI: drafter, explainer, organizer, tutor, or brainstorming partner. A risky role: unquestioned authority, therapist, doctor, lawyer, financial adviser, or decision-maker.
